JOB DESCRIPTION


Wholesale KYC Operations (WKO) is seeking a KYC Operations Associate. In this role you will be responsible for ascertaining that all KYC and AML policies are adhered. The KYC Operations Associate should possess strong analytical skills, the ability to work independently within a deadline, take initiative and adapt to change.

You primary responsibility in this role will be to manage a team of KYC Operations Analysts to ensure all client KYC records across New Business and renewals are compliant with regulatory standards, and to drive high quality and timely completion of all client-level due diligence requirements at the onset and renewal of client relationships. You will be responsible for a team and performance management, producing a critical, detailed, in-depth investigative review of historical transaction activity and/or negative media reviews on clients in line with firm policy and regulatory expectations. Based on the summary of the investigation, findings, conclusions and recommendations documented in the report, the LOB Relationship Managers and KYC Officers will perform additional follow up and due diligence with the customer.

Enhanced Due Diligence is required to be performed under the firm’s KYC periodic review standards for specific client types. The objective of the review is to determine (a) if actual activity is consistent with the due diligence information collected, including the client’s stated expected activity, (b) to identify high risk patterns of activity, (c) to highlight potential areas of concern based on negative media findings or risk that require follow up or resolution by KYC team, Relationship Management or Compliance, and (d) to validate the accuracy of the KYC risk rating.

You will assist the client-facing teams to ensure all client KYC records are compliant with regulatory standards, and will ensure high quality and timely completion of all client-level due diligence. You will assist in end to end operational activities through the periodic renewal process of all clients and will review the collection and verification of data performed to ensure all KYC records are accurate and complete prior to a final review by the client-facing team.

Job responsibilities:

  • Perform day to day management of a team of KYC Operations Analysts, including coaching and providing ongoing performance feedback.
  • Manage the KYC book of work across New Business and Renewals for your designated Middle Office sub-LOB to prioritise active requests, provide status updates managing the end to end process
  • Partner with the Middle Office team to ensure prioritisation of requests and efficient and timely delivery of KYC records, to obtain all necessary supporting evidence to fulfil KYC due diligence
  • Conduct a thorough investigation to establish the presence of AML/KYC typologies through an extensive review of transactions, determine any correlations or anomalies in the data based on reasonable expectations and prior experience and ascertain if activity between originators and beneficiaries have valid economic purpose based on their investigation & findings
  • Make a judgment on the risk, based on all findings. Determine if any unusual or high risk activity/information needs to be further investigated
  • Independently produce complete and accurate reports of their investigations, findings, decisions and recommendations for use by LOB and KYC Officers
  • Participate in the development and execution of department goals and process improvements initiated by Senior Management, including Identify formal and informal analyst training opportunities, mentoring and coaching team members on the job to augment formal training

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills:

  • Resilient interpersonal skills, ability to partner with internal stakeholders, influencing and negotiating effectively with business partners and senior managers
  • Minimum of 4 years of people management experience (within the investment management, financial service, auditing, compliance, or consulting industry with a strong exposure to KYC/AML/CDD/EDD combined with effectiveness in time management
  • Client focused whist maintaining a strong controls mind-set
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a business related discipline or equivalent work/training required, professional in KYC/AML
  • Proficiency in investigative techniques and pattern recognition and previous success in complex analysis and investigation with unstructured data populations
  • Exceptional research and analytical skills with the ability to analyse large amounts of data; decipher higher risk attributes (transactional, geographical, product, customer type, etc) and to identify trends and potential high-risk activity, and to document conclusions appropriately
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff and Senior Management, high motivation, openness to change, ability to work independently and to contribute in stressful situation, strong written and oral communication skills
